The army's not like the TV ads - some soldiers love the army, while others regret signing up. What do you think it's like?

british soldiersMost soldiers say the best thing about the job is their army mates. Soldiers get to travel and there are plenty of opportunities to keep 'army fit'. Soldiers who like the army and work hard can get promoted and rise through the ranks. The army is also a steady paying job, which can be hard to find in civvie street.

There are downsides, too. You have to do as you're told, like it or not. You lose your rights - you can't just leave if you don't like it. War can leave you with injuries or mental health problems that stay with you for life. The army can also be very boring when there's nothing to do. The army changes you - lots of soldiers say it's hard to live a normal life afterwards.
