Soldiers often complain about their pay, saying it doesn't make up for the hardships of the army, but there are some perks, like free dental treatment.

You also get long holidays - six weeks a year usually - but the army can cancel this if you go on exercise or operations (you can't carry it over into the next year).

When asked in 2016 how satisfied they are with their pay, about a third of soldiers said they were satisfied, a third not satisfied, and a third neither one nor the other.
