Is it true that I'd get free dental treatment, travel, pension... in the army? |

There are several perks of an army career, although the brochures from recruitment offices tend to exaggerate them.
- You would get free dental treatment.
- You wouldn't pay for your pension but it wouldn't be free either - soldiers' salaries are reduced to pay for it.
- Accommodation would be generally cheaper than in civilian life, but partly because it is of a generally poor standard and you wouldn't get to choose where you lived.
- Food charges are set in the same way as subsidised canteens in civilian firms.
- You would get three free return journeys by rail each year during time off to visit family and friends.
- You would get lower council tax bills, partly because you would usually share accommodation with others.
