As of 2008, 1 in 9 soldiers (12%) have an ethnic minority background. As of 2006, 3% (about 1 in 30) of soldiers said they had been discriminated against on grounds of their race in the previous 12 months.  Soldiers with ethnic minority backgrounds (and women) are more likely than others to be bullied during training by superiors or fellow trainees.
